Project: Lamp Light

Traditional card featuring Penny Black's Lamp Post stamp. This project uses clear embossing as a resist so you can add the background after stamping the image.
To aid the making of this card I used the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. (I also have a Mini Misti.) I resisted for a long time getting one of these gadgets, being a hardened 'old school' stamper from the 90's but finally gave in. Yes, it is useful! No more botched greetings plus it beats trying to find my acrylic blocks buried on my desk ;
I used:

  • Penny Black - Cones and Berries stamp set
  • Avery Elle - Let it Snow stamp set
  • Tim Holtz - Thinlits Holiday Greens
  • Memory Box - Small Blooming Poinsettia
  • Distress Markers: Black Soot, Festive Berries, Wild Honey and Mustard Seed
  • Ink:Distress - Stormy Sky, Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber, Forest Moss, Bundled Sage, Barn Door
  • Versamark ink pad - clear, Versafine ink - Onyx Black
  • Card stock: White
  • Dr. PH. Martins Hydrous Fine Art watercolour paint - Titanium White
  • Clear embossing powder
  • Heat tool
  • Tim Holtz Stamp Platform
  • Big Shot Plus die cutting and embossing machine

Cut a piece of white card 11.75 x 17 cm and plave on the stamp platform making sure the magnets are not going to get in the way. Work out where you want to stamp the image and open and close the lid to pick up the stamp.

Ink the stamps using the Distress markers. Re-inking and stamping as necessary to get a good impression.
Clean the stamp without taking it off the platform. Ink with Versamark clear ink and press onto the coloured image.
Remove the stamped card from the platform and sprinkle with clear embossing powder. Heat with the heat tool.
The image should now have glossy resist.

Create the lamp glow with Wild Honey and Scattered Straw Distress Inks.

Add the snowbanks with Stormy Sky using a mask at different angles - you can add as many as you like! Also add a little ink to create a shadow for the Lamp Post.
Edge the card with Stormy Sky too.

Spatter snow over the image and snowbanks with the Hydrous Titanium White water colour paint.

Place the card back onto the Stamp Plaform, this time to add the greeting.
Reverse the lid on the platform and position the stamp (Avery Elle Let it Snow - All is Calm All is Bright), pick up as before.
Ink with Versafine Onyx Black and stamp.

Die cut and colour the Holiday Greens sprigs in Forest moss
Cut the Small Blooming Poinsettia and colour with Bundled Sage and Barn Door. Cut the sprigs and piece into an arrangement, with the Poinsettias on top.

Stick the arrangement to the bottom of the image.

Layer the image onto a 12.25 x 17.5 cm piece of blue card.
Mount this to a 18 x 12.75 cm white card base (7x5")
